MONTEGO

24 year old Polish-bred Arabian gelding, 15.3hh, Gray
Foaled 5/21/1988

The beautiful Montego came to TGC when an elderly man who bred him and many other Arabians died, leaving his widow unable to care for them.  Not knowing what to do, she was planning to euthanize him and the others, when the trainer and stable personnel stepped up and put out the word.  Having lost 3 horses in the previous two months, I reached out, and sweet Montego has come to live out his days at TGC.

This lovely gelding was something fabulous in his younger days - here he's getting "reserve champion" at a show when he was three!
And this is the boy before he was all 'greyed out' heading out to yet another show, no doubt.

He came in to TGC quite thin, with a dry brittle coat and feet in poor shape.  He's had his teeth checked, been wormed, feet done and has been chowing down groceries to good effect.  He is a lover, not a fighter, and so a little bemused at his location between the often-belligerent Bayou and Cassidy who loves only Sarge!  But as he's built strength and learned the routine, he has more confidence and continues to be apple-pie sweet to handle on the ground.

I can't wait for his winter coat to shed out and let me see the satin-y white coat underneath....

I'm thrilled to report that sweet Fi Gotfredson, who first sponsored Oso, and then Sooner, of beloved memory, has transferred that sponsorship to Montego.  Thank you Fi, for your kindess!
