Dominic
Black Possibly QH/Azteca Gelding
15.1hh
Foaled approximately 1992
Meet Dominic, a gelding approximately 10 years old who was abandoned by his owner at a boarding stable in Pico Rivera. The stable owner carried him for a year, but due to a bad injury he had approximately 18 months ago, where his halter hung up on a fence and he was found hanging, half dead, he can't be ridden and seems to have serious trust issues where his hind end (bad scar on right hip) are concerned.
Otherwise, he's very personable, loves to get into anything you've got and very people friendly. His feet were badly off balance and we've fixed that. Laurie Henkel checked him to see if he had any maladjustments from that injury and those feet, but skeletally he seems straight. It appears he may have had really good training up to the time of that accident, but for whatever reason, isn't 'finished'. I'm no trainer, but will work with him to see what we can accomplish, and perhaps we will find someone willing to complete his training. For this reason, it could be that Dominic won't be here for the rest of his life - he's absolutely gorgeous, not too big, and should have his own person to cuddle with and have experiences with for another 10 years or so.
The great part of this story to me, was hearing of his dilemma, I put out the word on Facebook, and EIGHT people stepped up with between $10 and $25 a month to, together, fully sponsor this sweet boy. I swear to you that you don't know how much $10 or $20 or $25 a month can help, until you realize that these eight people just saved Dominic's life. He was auction bound .... which certainly could have meant slaughter sooner or later ... and now he's safe. You sponsors ROCK!
On June 1, 2014, our boy is going to Danica for assessment and hopefully, training. While Dom's needs are mostly met by his sponsors, the fact is training fees are expensive, and in addition, I have to pay to transport him for training, and also to board him (MUCH more expensive). Please feel free to help Dom, as this training could make all the difference in the rest of his life. If his problems are too much to solve, of course he'll come home. But whether he finds the perfect home or returns to us as trained to ride, his future will be better for the training.
Dominic is sponsored by a Committee of Saviors - Bethy Winkopp; Sonya Northrup; Kim Stanley, Dana Adams. There was more support for hiim at the beginning, but the rest have dropped away. - THANK YOU Sponsors who stuck with him for your help for this sweet boy!
