Our Mission

The Golden Carrot is a 501c3 Public Benefit Charity, and thus donations are tax deductible - IRS # 33-0802619

THIS IS A FOREVER HOME FOR OLDER AND MANAGEABLY DISABLED HORSES. THEY ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION.

THE GOLDEN CARROT HORSES ARE ONLY AVAILABLE FOR SPONSORSHIP.

As a sponsor, you can help these wonderful old horses live a graceful retirement to the end.

Some of the horses here at TGC were badly neglected and deemed unworthy of their owner's love, attention and even the most basic care before they were rescued. Some were sent to slaughter via auction.

Some have been retired here by people whose life situation changed so dramatically, they could no longer help their old friends. Many of those people still send monthly money to help their equine buddies, but it is often not enough to support them entirely.

However they get here, each one of these horses, as well as their predecessors and successors deserve to be loved, respected and properly cared for until the end…

The Golden Carrot is dedicated to meeting the needs of these magnificent horses, but we need your help. More donations are needed to support these horses and help more. Feed prices have escalated in the last two years to nearly twice what they were. At present, Golden Carrot horses can be fed for $140 per month apiece. It is a lot less than it costs to feed a human being for the same time. Only a dollar a day from enough people can really help. Can you help?

The Golden Carrot is also a resource for the community. Many of the horses thrive on gentle work. They offer a lifetime of education and seasoning. If you will do some chores, such as cleaning stalls, fixing fences, grooming, and exercising the horses, Casey will give you riding lessons. In addition, Casey will give riding lessons for money at TGC or at your own place, and also equine massage, which are some of the ways she supports those TGC horses who are not sponsored.

In addition, TGC tries to help place horses who don't fit the mission statement here - sound horses, young horses, breeding horses. With the help of my friends in the horse community, as well as Heavenly Horse Haven (whose mission is to rehab, retrain and rehome horses), and Neigh Savers (whose mission is to rehab, retrain and rehome off track thoroughbreds), we can find homes for horses that have more capabilities left.
